May 2020 - Ongoing

"2020 has struck us with a pandemic that promptly changed everyone’s life. Suddenly, nothing was safe anymore. The world became a tiny place confined to your own four walls, while simultaneously becoming so large with closed borders and minimum distances between every other person. Between losing freedom, control, and certainty of your life, how did we see ourselves and define ourselves locked into our homes, with no one around? "

This body of work is a collection of portraits of people whose appearance changed drastically during the pandemic and its related lockdowns in the Netherlands. The feeling of uncertainty, lack of control, and connection were deeply related to the crisis and are part of the themes that come back in this body of work, showing people on an empty canvas during the lockdown, and the retrieval of your sense of another self afterward."
